Why Use the Profit / Loss Calculator?

Knowing your potential profit or loss before you enter a trade changes how you plan it. Rather than placing a trade and hoping, you define your exit price, calculate the expected dollar outcome, and only enter if the reward justifies the risk. This calculator also lets you simulate "what if" scenarios — what happens if the trade moves against you 50 pips? What is your P&L at each target level? That kind of pre-trade analysis separates disciplined traders from gamblers.

P&L = (Exit Price − Entry Price) × Position Size × Contract Size

Example: Buy EUR/USD at 1.1000, close at 1.1080, position size 1 standard lot (100,000 units). P&L = (1.1080 − 1.1000) × 100,000 = 0.0080 × 100,000 = $800 profit. At 0.5 lots: $400 profit. At 0.1 lots: $80 profit.

How to Use the Profit / Loss Calculator — Step by Step

  1. 1

    Choose your asset and direction

Select Forex, Stocks, or Crypto from the asset selector, then choose Long (buy) or Short (sell) depending on your trade direction.

  2. 2

    Enter your entry price

Type the price at which you plan to enter or already entered the trade.

  3. 3

    Enter your exit price

Enter your target exit price — your take profit level or the price where you plan to close the trade.

  4. 4

    Enter your position size

For forex, enter the lot size. For stocks, enter the number of shares. For crypto, enter the number of coins or tokens.

  5. 5

View your net profit or loss

The calculator shows your gross P&L, net P&L after commissions, pip movement (for forex), and return percentage. A green result means profit; red means loss.

What Your Profit / Loss Calculator Results Mean

Gross P&L

Your raw profit or loss in dollars before deducting spread or commission. Positive = profit, negative = loss.

Net P&L

Your actual realized profit or loss after deducting your broker's spread and any commission. This is the number that hits your account balance.

Pip Movement

For forex trades, the number of pips price moved between entry and exit. Multiply by your pip value per lot to get the dollar P&L.

Return %

Your P&L as a percentage of your total account balance. Useful for comparing trade performance across different account sizes.

Profit / Loss Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

Q.How do I calculate profit on a forex trade?

Forex P&L = (Exit Price − Entry Price) × Lot Size × Contract Size. For EUR/USD: if you buy 1 standard lot at 1.1000 and close at 1.1050, profit = 0.0050 × 100,000 = $500.

Q.How is stock trade profit calculated?

Stock profit = (Sell Price − Buy Price) × Number of Shares. E.g. buying 100 shares at $50 and selling at $55 = ($55 − $50) × 100 = $500 profit (before commissions).

Q.Can I calculate P&L for short trades?

Yes. For short positions, profit is made when price falls. Simply enter your short entry price as the "entry" and your cover price as "exit" — the calculator handles the direction automatically.

Q.Does the calculator account for swap/overnight fees?

Currently the calculator shows gross P&L. For net P&L, you would need to subtract your broker's spread and any overnight swap fees, which vary by broker and pair.

Q.How do I calculate my trading profit as a percentage?

Profit % = (Net Profit ÷ Initial Account Balance) × 100. If you made $500 profit on a $10,000 account, that is 5%. For individual trades, use (P&L ÷ Amount Risked) × 100 to see your return on risk. Tracking percentage gains rather than dollar amounts lets you compare performance across different account sizes.
